Three years have passed since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared an end to the Ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone. Though the crisis has drawn to an end, and some of the people have been able to live some semblance of normalcy, their normal is not like ours. In a country where 70.2 percent of the inhabitants live below the poverty line, they still lack the necessary food for mere survival.
Children who have been orphaned, the disabled and the elderly are going hungry daily. Even I as write this, people are crying out for help for a situation that by all sense of the word makes their circumstance seem hopeless. But hopeless is not a word that we use, for Jesus has sent partners like you who care, for "the least of these". Please continue to give, our job is not over nor is their hunger or need. Through your generosity, orphaned children, the elderly, widows, and the disabled can be sustained. The virus may have lost its' stronghold but the need has not ended. Are we our brothers keeper? That was the question asked by Cain to God. If the blood cried out and God heard, surely when people are in need He hears their cries too. And we hear them too. These are our brothers and when one is hungry, sick, or in need, we are all responsible for their well being. "We are aware of the mandate" |
